Abstract

949,989. Sliding clasp fasteners. E. M. AUSNIT. June 26, 1961 [July 22, 1960; Jan. 19, 1961], No. 23062/61. Heading E2S. A flexible sliding clasp fastener comprises a pair of flexible closure strips 12, 13 Figs. 2 and 4 each having a web portion 15 or 17 provided with an integral marginal portion 16 or 18, the marginal portions having interlocking ribs and grooves 22-25 extending therealong on facing surfaces, one of the marginal portions 16 extending substantially parallel to its web portion 15 so as to be wholly beyond the web portion and the other of the marginal portions 18 being turned inwardly alongside its associated web portion 17, and a slider 14 straddling the closure strips and arranged to separate the strips when moved in an opening direction and to interlock the strips when moved in a closing direction. As shown the slider 14 preferably made of plastics material, comprises a pair of opposed sides 29, 30 the inner closing surfaces 31, 32 of which taper inwardly from the feed end of the slider, and a back portion from which depends, at the feed end, a finger 38 which may include a projecting portion 38a. The strips 12, 13 are applied over opposite edges of the opening in a pouch or envelope which is also made of a plastics material. In another arrangement, Figs. 7 and 10 for similar fastener strips 112, 113, a slider 114, preferably of metal is formed by opposed side walls 130, 131, having inwardly tapering closing surfaces 132, 133, a back portion 134 and a finger 137 which includes a tab or plate 139 projecting towards the closing end of the slider. Locking ribs 135, 136 are formed on the closing surfaces at that end to ensure inter-locking engagement of the strips.
