In a sliding-clasp fastener comprising polyvinyl chloride strips 1, 2, having interlocking groove and tongue longitudinal configurations 3 and 5 and 6 and 4, opening of the engaged strips is effected by a two-fingered projection 23 depending from a saddle-shaped piece 17 of the slider. The strips 1, 2 also comprise longitudinal grooves 10, 11 which are engaged by fingers 21, 22, 27, 28 projecting from the two-part bridgeshaped slider parts 16, 26. The slider is completed by a two-part saddle member 12 having serrated gripping surfaces 13, a number of shims 15 sufficient to ensure proper spacing of the slider over the strips 1, 2, and the appropriate number of assembly bolts 14, 18, 19 and 25. When opening the interlocked strips the fingers 21, 22 of the moving slider engages the strip grooves 10, 11 to thus press the strips together at the inner marginal portion of their junction so as partially to force the tongue 5 from the groove 3. The projection 23 then enters between the strips and prises them apart such that the tongue 4 is disengaged from the groove 6. The ends of the fastener are closed by hoods 29 heatsealed thereto, their internal configuration matching, respectively, the external shape of the interlocked and non-interlocked strips 1 and 2. The fastener is heat-sealed to the material 9 of the article to which it is applied, the strips having longitudinal grooves 8 for this purpose. The slider may have internal rollers engaging longitudinal grooves in the outer edges of the strips 1, 2. Such rollers may comprise the projections 21, 22 of plate 16 and/or the projections 27, 28 of plate 26. Specification 887,956 is referred to.
