In a liquid level gauge the level of the liquid controls the heat dissipation from, and hence the resistance of, a current carrying thermistor. In the Figure a thermistor 1 is mounted at the end of an electrically conducting tube 2 and connected, by plug 6 through resistors 7, with the indicating circuit. The circuit diagram shows how the gauge may be connected in the wiring of an I. C. engine to light the oil pressure warning light 10 when the resistance of the thermistor 1 falls due to its rise in temperature on being uncovered by a fall in oil level. Contacts 9 are the contacts of the existing low oil pressure warning switch. Stop 4 is adjustable to cater for variations in normal oil level in various containers.
