Abstract
556,575. Mercury switches. ENGEL, E. E. O. April 2, 1942, No. 4433. [Class 38 (v)] A mercury thermometer 16 with wire contacts 19, 20 in the bore closes a circuit including an indicator such as a lamp 13, and a battery 11. All are carried on or by a casing 10 of "torch" form. A third contact may cause an indication of still higher temperature in a second lamp or buzzer. An adapter (Fig. 5 not shown) may replace the cap 12 and lamp 13 to enable a separate indicator to be used, with an outside source of electricity. Where the contact wires extend through the wall of the thermometer bore, an enlargement prevents separation of the mercury column. Specification 556,576 is referred to.
