Abstract

559,097. Thermal switches. GRIFFITHS, G. Aug. 28, 1942, No. 12129. [Class 38 (v)] A temperature alarm switch comprises a bimetal strip secured at one end to the rear of a dial 2, the free end moving a finger 5 over a scale until it meets a further contact comprising a wire 9 fixed in and projecting through an insulating bush 10 in the dial, at an appropriate low temperature. There may also be a similar wire 11 in a bush 12 to close the alarm circuit at a higher temperature. In a modification. Fig. 4, the casing 13 is of insulating material, a low temperature alarm may be fitted, as in the previous example, but the high temperature contact is adjustable as by providing a cranked arm 25 pivoted in the dial so that its contact end may be moved to any desired temperature. Various methods of arranging so that the adjustable contact can operate as a low temperature alarm by swinging it to the other side of the indicating finger 16, are described, together with a testing push switch.
