Abstract

941,145. Sampling powdered and granular materials. HENRY SIMON Ltd. Sept. 3, 1962 [Sept. 29, 1961], No. 35107/61. Heading B8N. Powdered material conveyed upwards by a gas under pressure in a duct 3 is sampled periodically by opening a port 5 normally closed by a spring-pressed flat-headed valve 7 and opened by moving the valve transversely on an arm 11. The head of valve 7 slides on a flat surface 4a extending round the port 5. The valve is operated via a shaft 12 by an arm 16 and a pneumatic motor 19, the connections between which are not shown. Each sample is collected in a container 22 mounted at the bottom of a screen 15 surrounding the valve. The top of screen 15 is covered by a textile filter 20 held taut by a spring and hoop 21.
