Abstract
940,852. Compressor unloading means. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 7, 1962 [Oct. 17, 1961], No. 37188/61. Heading F1N. A compressor inlet valve 15 Fig. 1 is held open by an extension 14 of a piston 2 slidably mounted in a body 1 when delivery pressure admitted through a bore 12 is sufficient to blow a spring- biased valve 9 from a seat 11 surrounding said bore 12 to a seat 6 formed by the piston 2 and which seat when unoccupied is connected to atmosphere but when engaged by valve 9 provides a relatively greater area open to delivery pressure resulting in movement of the piston and valve to the position at which it opens the inlet valve 15. In a modification the valve 9 comprises a spring-biased ball and in a further modification both valve seats 6, 11 Fig. 3 are provided by shoulders formed in a cavity within the piston 2.
