Abstract

941,508. Fluid pressure operated motors. APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc. June 20, 1962 [June 26,1961], No. 23667/62. Headings F1M and F1S. A fluid (e.g. compressed air) motor comprises a body 5 having a piston chamber formed therein, a piston 9 reciprocable within the chamber, a valve block 6 closing an end of the chamber, a fluid pressure supply passageway 19 in the valve block communicable with the adjacent end of the chamber, a throttle valve 26 normally closing the supply passageway and operable to open the same and establish direct communication between the supply passageway and the chamber, means forming an exhaust passage 38 in the valve block communicable with opposite ends of the chamber, a freely reciprocable valve 21 in the valve block operable when seated to close the chamber from the exhaust passage and when unseated to establish direct communication between the chamber and the exhaust passage, the piston being moved in one direction by the fluid pressure admitted to the chamber when the valve is seated, another passageway 45 communicable with an intermediate portion of the chamber and one end of the freely reciprocable valve dependent upon the position of the piston in the chamber for conducting pressurised fluid from the chamber to the valve end to unseat the valve and thereby open the chamber to the exhaust passage and means 12 for moving the piston in the opposite direction when the valve is unseated. The valve 21 is formed with a portion 48 directly engageable by the piston when moved in the opposite direction to thereby seat the valve as shown in Fig. 3 the recess in the valve block opening into the piston chamber is formed by bores 33. Spaced guide surfaces 51 are provided for the valve.
