Abstract

770,600. Piston valves. NEW YORK AIR BRAKE CO. June 7, 1955 [July 1, 1954], No. 16297/55. Class 135. A valve suitable for controlling a doubleacting hydraulic motor and for unloading a constantly running pump when the motor is not being operated consists of a fixed cylindrical seating 15 carried by a head 11 and surrounded by an axially movable sleeve 18 which is operable against a centring spring 25 by a stem 31 and is enclosed by a cap 12, the interior of which is connected by an opening 36 to exhaust. The seat 15 has three longitudinal bores 37, 39, 42, the last of which has a connection 47 with the pressure fluid supply, whilst the other two are connected to the opposite ends of the motor. The bore 42 communicates with cross-bores 43, 44, the latter connecting the pressure fluid supply to exhaust through opening 24 when the sleeve is in its central position. The bores 37, 39 also have cross-bores 38, 41 which are closed by the sleeve when in its central position. When the sleeve is displaced, the bores 44 are closed and an annular recess 19 in the sleeve interconnects the bores 43 with either the bores 38 or 41 so that one end of the motor is supplied with pressure fluid, whilst the other end is exhausted through whichever of the bores 38 or 41 are not connected to the bores 43.
