Abstract

939,759. Apparatus for compacting and pelleting hay. MASSEY-FERGUSON SERVICES N.V. Feb. 24, 1960 [March 4, 1959], No. 6468/60. Class 49. A machine for forming pellets of hay includes a hopper 12 for the reception of cut hay, e.g. from a forage harvester, a chamber 13, 14, communicating with the hopper, a feed conveyer 34, 35, extending between the hopper and chamber to convey hay to the chamber, a plurality of open-ended pellet-forming cells 42 disposed annularly around the chamber, one open end of each cell being presented towards the interior of the chamber, a series of partitions 44 dividing the cells and having sharp edges 45 presented towards the chamber, and serrated rollers 31 mounted on members 29 for urging the hay into engagement with the sharp edges whereby the hay is severed, compacted and passed through the pellet-forming cells. A rotating blade 24 adjustably mounted on an arm 19 breaks off particles from the compressed hay after it has passed through the cells. The common shaft 16 for the feed conveyer, members and arm is attached at 26 to any type of driving connection from a tractor or other towing vehicle.
