937,356. Distributing granular materials. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. April 9, 1962 [April 29, 1961], No. 15605/61. Class 6(1). A machine for spreading granular material such as stone chippings on road surfaces comprises a hopper whose outlet is defined by inclined walls 1, 2 one of which is extended to form a flat shoot 1a which co-operates with a rotor 5 provided with deep pockets 8 and arranged so that it rotates in a direction that carries the lowermost pockets 8 upwards relative to the shoot. An adjustable gate 4 is provided together with means for vibrating the wall 1 and shoot 1a. A hammer 12 on a lever 13 is oscillated by a cam 16 against a spring 15. A wedge-shaped deflector plate protects each end of the rotor and the deflector plates are mounted on side plates (not shown).
