Abstract

The invention comprises: iminodibenzyl (dihydrodibenzazepine) derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0921237/IV(a)/1> (wherein A represents a straight or branched alkylene chain of 2-6 carbon atoms) and their acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts; the preparation of the bases by reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0921237/IV(a)/2> (wherein Z represents the acid residue of a reactive ester) with azetidine, or by reacting iminodibenzyl with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0921237/IV(a)/3> or by heating a compound of the general formula <FORM:0921237/IV(a)/4> above 100 DEG C. until evolution of carbon dioxide ceases; and pharmaceutical compositions containing at least one of the bases, or an acid addition or quaternary ammonium salt thereof, and a pharmaceutical carrier. The pharmaceutical compositions, which have neurotonic activity, may be in forms suitable for oral or parenteral administration, e.g. tablets, pills, dispersible powders, granules, capsules, emulsions, solutions, suspensions, syrups or elixirs. Specified acid addition salts include theophyllineacetates, phenolphthalinates, salicylates and methylene-bis-hydroxynaphthoates.
