Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0852795/IV(b)/1> wherein A is NH2 or a mono-substituted NH2 group, the substituent group containing 1-8 carbon atoms and being an alkyl, alkenyl, carboxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryl aralkyl, alicyclic or heterocyclic radical, and the preparation thereof by oxidising a nitrofurfural thiosemicarbazone of the general formula: <FORM:0852795/IV(b)/2> The oxidation may be carried out either using a metal salt occurring at more than one level of oxidation or electrolytically (see Group XXXVI).
