Abstract

The invention comprises compounds having the general formula : <FORM:0858786/IV(b)/1> and alkali metal salts thereof, where R represents a chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group, R1 represents a chlorine or bromine atom and R11 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group of up to 3 carbon atoms, and the preparation thereof by treating appropriate benzene disulphonchlorides with appropriate amines and, if desired, converting the products into their alkali metal salts ; also pharmaceutical compositions containing the products (see Group VI). The products are diuretics and/or natriuretics. 5-Chlorotoluene-2, 4-disulphonchloride and 5-bromotoluene-2, 4-disulphonchloride are prepared by treating appropriately substituted benzene with chlorosulphonic acid.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions, comprising compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0858786/VI/1> or alkali metal salts thereof, where R represents a chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group, R1 represents a chlorine or bromine atom and R11 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group of up to 3 carbon atoms group with a diluent, may be in the form of tablets or solutions.
