Abstract

The invention comprises (a) the following 2-amino-s-triazines and their acid addition salts: 4 - methoxy, 4 - methoxy - 6 - methyl, - ethyl, -propyl and -isobutyl, and 4-ethoxy-6-methyl and -ethyl; (b) the preparation of compounds of the general formula <FORM:1017450/C2/1> (wherein R1 is a methyl or ethyl group and R2 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-6 alkyl group) and their acid addition salts by (i) reacting guanyl-O-methylisourea or -ethylisourea with a reactive derivative of R2COOH, or (ii) reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:1017450/C2/2> (wherein R3 is a methyl or ethyl group) with ammonia, optionally followed in either case by acid addition salt formation; and (c) pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions containing a compound of the first general formula, or an acid addition salt thereof, and a carrier or diluent. The compounds of the first general formula are useful as taming agents in veterinary medicine, and 2-amino-4-methoxy-6-methyl-s-triazine and its acid addition salts are useful in the treatment of neurosis and psychosis.
