Abstract

918,188. Snap-action switches. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. March 21, 1961 [June 30, 1960], No. 10341/61. Class 38 (5). [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVIII] In a suction cleaner (see Group XXVIII) an electric motor driving a fan is controlled by a switch 88 of the type that upon successive actuations of a spring-loaded plunger 90 alternate opening and closing of the switch contacts occurs. The switch is operated by a spring- loaded button 80 which is mounted to project from the bottom of the cleaner housing and the motor and fan are so disposed in the housing as to give the latter a tendency to pivot about supporting wheels thereon, the button 80 being thus brought into engagement with the surface supporting the cleaner and being then positioned to be depressed by force applied, e.g. by an operator's foot, to the housing above the switch. The switch 88 may be operated by finger pressure on a second button 81 disposed within the button 80, e.g. when the cleaner is in a storage position, Fig. 4 (not shown).
