Abstract

907,537. Road surface slabs. KELLNER, H., [trading as DEUTSCHE CEMENT-INDUSTRIE H. KELLNER & CO.]. Jan. 20, 1959 [Jan. 24, 1958], No. 2009/59. Classes 87 (1) and 107. A roadway is formed of slabs, Fig. 1, each comprising concrete or similar blocks 2 interconnected by an adhesive elastically-yielding compound 3, e.g. bitumen or synthetic resin concrete, which are laid in a prepared subgrade 7 of mortar composed of granular material and a slightly plastic binding agent, e.g. bitumen. Alternatively the slabs may be formed integral with interstices 5, Fig. 2, between the blocks which do not extend to the bottom plane, and the interstices are filled with the adhesive compound. The continuous base portion of the slab may be reinforced 6. The surface of the blocks may be formed free of pores to allow lifting by suction-pads or the concrete may contain ferro-magnetic material, e.g. steel wool, to allow a magnetic lift. The slabs may be prefabricated or cast in situ.
