Abstract

906,335. Scaffolding. UNION METAL PRODUCTS Inc. March 7, 1961, No. 8316/61. Class 20 (2). A scaffold structure comprises a beam 90 secured to two uprights 60 and supporting a winch 94 from which cables 101 extend over sheaves 102 at respective ends of the beam, and thence downwardly to the ends of a second beam 75 whereby operation of the winch causes the beam 75, and a platform P supported thereon, to be raised or lowered. Three-sided sleeves 105, fixed to either end of the beam 90, embrace the uprights 60, and a spring-loaded catch 107 attached to each sleeve carries a hook which engages a selected one of a plurality of slots 62 formed in each upright to maintain the beam in position; bell-crank levers 110 are provided to release the catches 107 when required. Sleeves 76, fixed to each end of beam 75, embrace respective uprights 60, and pivotally-mounted detents 79 engage chosen ones of the slots 62 to maintain the beam 75 in position without use of the winch; a cable x is attached to the two detents to release the beam when it is to be moved by means of the winch.
