Abstract
906,302. Bed-settees. WINICK, J. I., and WINICK, M. Oct. 10, 1960 [Oct. 8, 1959], No. 34162/59. Class 52 (2). In a bed-settee in which a pivotally interconnected back 5 and seat 4 are carried on upstanding links 10, 14 and 15 and the links swing the assembly forwardly as the back is lowered rearwardly into the horizontal position, a latch 19 locks the links 14, 15, as shown, to hold the back in the erect position. The lock is releasable by raising the front edge of seat 4 and thus turning arm 11 about its bearing 12 on connecting link 13. To continue the conversion, the seat 4 is pulled forwardly and the links 10, 14 and 15 turn clockwise about their pivotal connections with fixed mounting bar 16. Tension spring 23 becomes operative to counterbalance the back only after the seat has reached the highest point in its travel. In another form, the pivotal connections 9, 17 and 12 are arranged to allow the edges of non-detachable upholstery to abut in the bed position.
