Abstract

904,347. Box blank erecting machines. PEMBROKE CARTON & PRINTING CO. Ltd. Jan. 5, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960], No. 803/60. Class 18. A die-plunger machine for erecting blanks as shown in Fig. 3, to form boxes with one or two inwardly sloping sides 11, 12 having flaps 13 engaging slits 15 in the other sides 14 or in the adjacent flaps 13 comprises a plunger 35 with retractable parts 36 which support the blank base 10 adjacent the folds of the sides 11, 12, the die walls 24 which initially fold the sides 11, 12 through 90 degrees having pivoted fingers 29 therein which are rocked by passage of the plunger to fold the sides 11, 12 beyond 90 degrees to the required angle. The projections 29 also act as strippers during plunger withdrawal, during which withdrawal the springs 43 (which may be replaced by counterbalance weights) are overcome by the action of the sloping box sides on the sheet 39 thus causing them to move inward to a position flush with the face 35, thereby effecting said retraction. Known means may be incorporated in the die walls for opening the slits 15 and guiding the flaps 13.
