Abstract
901,911. Magnetic tests. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 29, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6932/59. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (a)] A cathode-ray tube 1 having a substantially flat screen 5 is fitted by non-magnetic rings 7, to slide within a bore in a magnet 3. The tube is short compared with the length of the bore and the spot on the screen is focused by the field, changes of spot shape, dimension or position during movement along the bore indicating an inhomogeneity in the region of the screen. Inhomogeneities may be removed by the application of a local field. In, for example, a long magnet for focusing a long electron beam, which comprises short tubular portions arranged end to end with their axes aligned, the magnetization may be adjusted by rotating portions with respect to one another. The scope of the claim is such as to include movement of a screen relative to a fixed beam.
