Abstract
792,020. Electron beam focussing apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1954], No. 27902/55. Class 39(1). An arrangement for focusing an electron beam, e.g., in a travelling wave tube, consists of an assembly of alternate permanent magnets 2 and spacing members 3 of material of high magnetic permeability and a system of by-pass, magnetic elements 6 adjustable in axial position between the spacing members to attain more closely a desired axial flux distribution. A sleeve 4 of non-magnetic material, such as brass. may be provided with grooves 5 with screwthreaded surfaces on which the by-pass elements 6 in the form of rings can be rotated. The arrangement may be used to provide a uniform field, or a field with a periodic reversal of flux along the axis.
