Abstract
940,055. Travelling wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. May 1, 1962 [May 2, 1961], No. 16747/62. Heading H1D. An electron beam focusing arrangement, preferably for a travelling wave tube, comprises a plurality of permanent magnets 1, 2, 3, 4, Fig. 1, symmetrically disposed about the electron beam and interconnected by a soft iron member or members 5, 6, 7, 8 disposed across the width of the arrangement wherein the or each member has a bore formed therein for accommodating the discharge tube and wherein the arrangement is constituted by two parts which mate along a plane containing the axis of the discharge tube. The polepieces 5, 6, 7, 8 may be hinged along their line of division (dotted line 10). The device shown produces a periodic magnetic focusing field. The feeder waveguides are also divided longitudinally along the wider face, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the N 10 field lines are undisturbed by the division. The periodic focusing system may be replaced by ferrite rings or by a non-periodic permanent magnetic focusing system producing a uniform field.
