Abstract

900,476. Pipe couplings. FISCHER A.G., GEORG. Nov. 24, 1960 [Nov. 25, 1959], No. 40512/60. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling including a packing element, an externally screw-threaded socket and a co-operating union nut, the packing element 2 is adapted at one end for engaging the socket 4, and, at the other end thereof, to fit over a pipe 1 to be coupled to the socket, and is provided with an external frusto-conical surface 26 which co-operates with an internal frusto-conical surface 31 having a larger angle of conicity, in the union nut 3. The element 2 also has an internally narrowed part 23 at the socket-engaging end to form an abutment 24 for the pipe and the arrangement is such that when the nut and socket are screwed together the packing element tightens around -the pipe to form a rounded construction 12 in the pipe wall.
