Abstract

801,859. Pipe joints. WIGLEY, E. L. March 22, 1957 [April 24, 1956], No. 12561 /56. Class 99(1). ). In a stuffing box type joint for connecting a plastic pipe 1 to a union member 14 a flanged sleeve 4 is screwed into one end of the pipe which is placed in the member 14 so that the flange 5 abuts against a shoulder 16 and a resilient washer 7 is compressed against the flange 5 and forced into sealing engagement with the pipe 1 and member 14 by a gland nut 10 screwing into member 14. Rotation of the washer 7 during tightening of the nut 10 is prevented by a cap-shaped or ring-like member 8 situated between the parts 7, 10, and one or more grooves may be formed on the smooth part 17 of the bore of member 14. According to the Provisional Specification the sleeve 4 may be secured in the pipe 1 by projections thereon which bite into the pipe wall.
