Abstract

A transparent coloured film is applied to a glass surface by spraying a solution or suspension of a metal compound or an enamel, the film is secured to the glass by heating and an outer coating of aluminium is then applied by spraying molten aluminium. The colouring solutions specified are ferric chloride and stannic chloride, and by spraying these solutions on to glass heated to 500 DEG C. to 650 DEG C. the respective metal oxides are formed. The aluminium coating is formed by spraying molten aluminium on to the coated glass which is heated to 235 DEG C. to 450 DEG C. Prior to applying the aluminium the coated glass may be annealed and tempered.
