Abstract

Metal components are enamelled by a process comprising coating the metal component with a foil carrying all the enamel to be applied, and subjecting to a single firing, when the foil volatilizes or burns away. The foil may carry one or more layers of enamel. The foil may be of synthetic resin, preferably polyester, which may have thickness 0.025-0.045 mm. The enamel thickness may be less than 0.10 mm., preferably being 0.005-0.05 mm. The enamels need not comprise grinding additives, and may include opacifiers, e.g. TiO2. The enamel may be coloured. The foil may comprise two united layers of synthetic resin, the inner layer carrying priming and surfacing enamel, and the outer layer carrying colour decoration enamel.
