Abstract
892,423. Clamps. TATE ENGINEERS Ltd., and TATE, J. E. Oct. 21, 1959 [July 23, 1958], No. 23767/58. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXVI] A spacer, for overhead cables which are at the same voltage, comprises a length of stranded metal cable 10 each end of which extends into a socket integral with or attached to a two part eye, the socket being contracted on to the cable end, and a plastics covering 11 extending over the stranded cable and either into the socket (as shown) or over the outer surface thereof (Fig. 3, not shown). The two part eye may be integral with the socket and clamped about the overhead cable by a hinge at one side and a pivoted bolt and nut at the other (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown). The eye shown comprises two parts 13 and 14 hinged at 16 and with apertured extensions 25 and 26 which are shaped to engage the outer surface of the socket part 24. A stepped shank 29 fits into a transverse stepped hole, through the socket part, the narrower portion 30 of the shank being externally threaded to receive a nut 32 which secures the shank and one part of the eye to the socket part 24 whilst the larger portion of the shank has an internally threaded bore to receive a bolt 35 which is captive in the extension 25 of the eye part 13. The stranded cable 10 may be of steel; the covering 11 of p.v.c., and the socket part of aluminium alloy.
