Abstract

973,334. Bolts and captive washers. SQUARE D CO. April 22, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 15742/63. Heading F2H. [Also in Division H2] A bent or bowed clamp washer 5, Figs. 3, 4, e.g. for clamping at least one wire W, Fig. 12, on a terminal conductor 15, is held captive by a bead 6 on a bolt shank 4 under the bolt head 2, the bead diameter being greater than the minimum diameter of the elongated hole in the washer but smaller than the maximum diameter. There may be a lock washer 10 between the head 2 and the washer 5. Grooves 8 are stamped at either end of the washer hole 5a, i.e. at either side of the washer ridge 7 so that abutments 9 are formed under the washer. As shown in Fig. 12, the abutments 9 urge a clamped wire W against the bolt 1 and the washer 5 is tilted when the bolt is screwed into the conductor 15 but if two wires are clamped one at each side, the washer remains level.
