Abstract
The invention comprises water-insoluble disazo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0889802/IV (c)/1> wherein R is a naphthyl or phenyl radical, the latter being substituted by at least one halogen atom or alkyl or alkoxy group. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotised 2-amino-4 - alkoxy - 5 - alkyl - 21 - phenylsulphonyl - 41 - nitro-azobenzene in substance, on the fibre or on another substratum with a suitable 2-hydroxynaphthoic acid arylamide. The dyes give green to brown shades on cellulose fibres. In examples, dyes are prepared on cotton yarn or fabric and in substance from the following components: 2 - amino - 4 - methoxy - or - ethoxy - 5 - methyl - 21 - phenylsulphonyl - 41 - nitroazobenzene and 2 - amino - 4 - methoxy - 5 - ethyl - 21 - phenyl - sulphonyl - 41 - nitroazobenzene; the 1 - (21 : 31 - hydroxynaphthoylamino) - derivatives of 2 - methyl-4-methoxy-benzene, 2 : 4-dimethoxy-5-chlorobenzen, 2- or 4-methoxy- or -ethoxybenzene, 2 - methoxy - 4 - chloro - 5 - methyl - benzene, 2 : 5 - dimethoxy-4-chlorobenzene, 2 : 5-dimethoxybenzene, 2-methyl- or -methoxy-5-chlorobenzene, 2 : 3 - or 2 : 4-dimethylbenzene and naphthalene.
