Abstract

Azo dyestuffs are produced on mixtures of polyamide fibres with animal or vegetable fibres, such as cotton, silk, wool and regenerated cellulose fibres, by applying simultaneously from an alkaline solution or suspension a coupling component and a diazo - amino compound obtainable by reacting a hydroxy-dialkyl-amine of the formula <FORM:0772593/IV(b)/1> in which R1 and R2 represent alkyl radicals at least one of which is substituted by a hydroxyl group, such as diethanolamine or methyl - ethanol - amine, with a diazotized primary aromatic amine which does not contain a nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano, phenyl-sulphonyl, sulphenic acid or carboxylic acid group or two halogen atoms, then treating the fibres with a diazotized amine and finally developing the dyeing on the polyamide fibres by treatment in an acid bath. Suitable coupling components are arylides of 2:3 - hydroxy - naphthoic acid or of 2 - hydroxy - carbazole - 3 - carboxylic acid or of 51 - hydroxy - 1:2:11:21 - benzcarbazole - 41 - carboxylic acid or an acylacetyl - amino - compound of a 2:5 - dialkoxy - benzene or of the benzthiazole or diphenyl series. Numerous diazo components are specified, the aromatic amine of which is preferably substituted by alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, phenoxy, amino, phenylazo or acylamino groups. Examples are given.
