Abstract
The invention comprises azo dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:0917725/IV (b)/1> wherein R is a radical of the benzene, naphthalene or diphenyl series, R1 stands for the radical of a naphthalene sulphonic acid in which the azo bridge is in the 1-position and the -NH-R2 is in the 2-position and R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical and the phenylene radicals A and B, as well as the radicals R and R, may possess further substituents and a process for the preparation thereof wherein the diazo compound of an amine of the general formula <FORM:0917725/IV (b)/2> wherein R is a radical of the benzene, naphthalene or diphenyl series and wherein the phenylene radicals and R may contain further substituents is coupled with an optionally further substituted 2-amino or 2-monoalkylamino-naphthalene sulphonic acid coupling in the 1-position, the coupling being carried out in an aqueous medium which is neutral or acid to congo red. Substituents which may be present in the diazo components include halogen atoms, alkoxy, acylamino, nitro, alkyl, alkylsulphonyl and substituted sulphonamide groups and in the coupling components, halogen atoms, alkoxy or hydroxy groups. Examples are furnished. The products are suitable for dyeing animal fibres such as wool and silk and synthetic fibres such as polyamide and polyurethane fibres.
