Oct. 28, 1957 [Oct. 27, 1956], No. 33602/57. Class 16. An index tab of pliable, preferably synthetic plastics material, has a generally triangular attachment portion with a tongue at each corner for engagement in slots in an index card near its edge and a portion carrying indicia which when the tongues are engaged in the slots projects beyond the edge of the index card. As shown, Fig. 2, a tab 4 has tongues 12-14 inserted in slots 15 in an index card 1 and a portion 5 extending above the top-edge of the card. The portion 5 is preferably transparent and may receive indicia directly or be formed as a flattened tube in which a cardboard index slip is inserted. As shown, the cards 1 are arranged in groups between guide cards 2 carrying tabs 3, the tabs 4 being arranged in staggered series across a file those on the rear half of the cards having portions 5 twice the height of the portions 5 of the front tabs. Indicia corresponding to the indicia on the tabs are carried by the guide cards 2 either behind the portions 5, at 9, 10 or above (not shown). Modified forms of tab are shown in Figs. 6-8.
