Abstract
877,870. Respiratory appliances. OXYGENAIRE (LONDON) Ltd. July 12, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 30816/69. Class 81 (2). A respirator comprising a bag of flexible material and having an inlet for respirable gas and a number of outlet orifices, has one or more of the outlets provided with one-way valve means. In the mask described, a flat bag of polythene or similar material, closed at its lower end 11, has its upper end turned in and sealed to form a channel 13. The inlet connection 17 is connected to this enclosed space and a relatively restricted orifice 19 allows oxygen &c. to pass to the mask proper 10, the resultant partial inflation of the space 13 ensuring effective sealing against the face. Outlet orifices, direct to atmosphere, are provided in the lower part of the bag and some of these are covered by rectangular flaps 23 of polythene, heat sealed to the mask along one or two edges, so as to act as one-way exhalation valves.
