Abstract

990,870. Respiratory appliances. AGA A.B. June 29, 1962 [July 4, 1961], No. 25037/62. Heading A5T. A valve arrangement for artificial respiration equipment comprises a chamber having connections for a gas supply, a mask and an outlet to atmosphere, and a valve member movable between positions in which it closes the inlet and outlet respectively. The chamber 1 has tubular connections 3, 4, 5, the first of which is an outlet to atmosphere while connections 4 and 5 are coupled to a gas supply and the user's mask respectively. On inhalation, gas through connection 4 moves the flexible valve member 6, which is preferably of rubber, against the outlet 3 to close it, at the same time passing around the valve member to the mask connection 5. On exhalation, the valve member 6 is moved back by the pressure of the exhaled air so as to close the inlet 4 and allow the air to pass out through the outlet 3.
