Abstract
The invention comprises the compound of the formula <FORM:0875948/IV (b)/1> and its acid addition salts, and pharmaceutical preparations containing them (see Group VI), and the preparation of the compounds by reacting p-benzoquinone monoguanylhydrazone monothiosemicarbazone with chloracetic or bromacetic acid or a salt or the methyl or ethyl ester thereof, or by reacting p-benzoquinone monoguanylhydrazone with 4-hydroxythiazolyl-(2)-hydrazine or its N-isopropylidene derivative. Both reactions are advantageously effected in the presence of an aqueous mineral acid to give the product in the form of an addition salt with the acid.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations having bacteriostatic or bactericidal activity comprise the compound of the formula <FORM:0875948/VI/1> or the hydrate or an acid addition salt (e.g. the nitrate) thereof, and an organic or inorganic solid or liquid vehicle. They may be in tablet, spray or powder form and may contain other pharmaceutical agents, e.g. sulphadiazin.
