Abstract

874,616. Cartons. DIXON, R. Jan. 22, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 33025/57. Class 18. A carton is folded up from a blank as shown in Fig. 1 so that corner gussets 4 lie against sides 2, 2 and are secured in position by the folding over of side extension flap 6 the wings 7 of which engage over the gussets so that, tabs 7x lock in slits 13 ; end extension flaps 8 and their wings 9 are bent over similarly so that tabs 9x lock in slits 10. Tuck-in flap 11 on the lid 5 engages in a slit 12 to close the carton. In a modification the wings on the front side 2 are rectangular and connected to modified gussets by triangular connector pieces which when folded press the gussets against the side. In a further embodiment, the wings are each hinged to that part of the gusset adjoining the end instead of to the side. Again, the lid may be dispensed with and a tray formed, in which case wings need only be provided on the end extension flaps. Adhesive may be used to secure the corner assemblies in addition to the locking tabs.
