867,263. Linear-dimension gauges. SCHUMAG SCHUMACHER METALLWERKE G.m.b.H. May 12, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 16316/59. Class 106 (2). A device for gauging axially-moving cylindrical workpieces W comprises contact members 5, 6 mounted in frame 3 universally elastically suspended in the gauging plane, the centre of gravity of the frame 3 being at a distance from the contact faces 5, 6, in a direction perpendicular to the gauging direction. This device diminishes errors in gauging due to incorrect positioning of the workpieces. In the embodiment described, the frame 3 has a horseshoe shape and is suspended by three equiangularlyspaced springs 4 from a member 1. The contacts 5, 6, are of part-cylindrical form, and movement of the movable contact 6 operates a pneumatic gauging member 7. To protect the gauging elements if the workpiece should whip, two relatively inclined guide members (not shown) are provided on the entry side of the gauge.
