Abstract
900,025. Dynamometers. CARTER, A. C. May 4, 1960 [May 4, 1959], No. 15201/59. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XX] A load measuring device comprises a member extending transversely to the load and deflected thereby, the deflection being measured by a clinometer fitted with a restoring micrometer. As shown, Fig. 1, a load 4 acts through a ram 5 and ball 6 on an elastic member 1 forming one side of an apertured steel block 2. This block yields and deflection of member 1 is transmitted by stem 12 to a bar 11 and detected by a spirit level 13. The level is returned to its original position by a micrometer screw 15 to determine the load. The block 2 is supported on a pedestal 20 having a spirit level 22 to detect unintentional displacement of block 2. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, a bar 32 is attached to a vertical support 34 and the member 1 by spring strips 33, 35 so that vertical displacement of member 1 causes angular deflection of bar 32.
