Abstract

859,835. Typewriters. BYERS, E. V. June 29, 1959 [March 29, 1958], No. 10170/58. Class 100(4) A universal bar for a typewriter comprises a sector shaped plate 6 having an arcuate flange 5 which is engaged by abutments 4 on type-levers 1 to move the plate 6 about fulcrum points disposed on an arc 7, the movement of the plate 6 being transmitted to a lever 10 connected to the escapement mechanism. The fulcrum points are formed by a raised rib 7 on the back of the typelever segment and a line e.g. D-C from the particular fulcrum point and the point where type-lever 1 engages the flange 5 extends through a raised part 9 which engages the lever 10. This lever is pivoted in a slot 11 in the framework and is connected to the space-bar.
