Abstract

852,764. Retractive switches. CUTLERHAMMER Inc. June 27, 1958 [June 27, 1957], No. 20722/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXII] A switch for an electric power tool has a trigger 26 pivoted at 38 and connected at 40 to a latch member 42 having a portion normally engaging an aperture 44 in a slidable member 46. When the trigger is released, Fig. 2, it is biased clockwise by a spring 48 connected to the latch and by a spring 54 connected to a portion 52 of member 46. When depressed to a second position, Fig. 3, the latch is pulled to the left and the member 46 is slid to the left to allow the switch 28 to close. Further depression of the trigger to the Fig. 4 position causes it to engage a part 66 of the latch to disengage the latter from the aperture 44 to allow the member 46 to be pulled to the right by spring 54 to re-open the switch. The latch may have a portion which presses against the side of spring 48 to increase the spring opposition to such extra movement of the trigger. The latter may be held in the Fig. 3 position by depression of a button 62 into an aperture 64 in the trigger.
