A vaporising burner comprises a chamber 2 with a flame opening 3 at its upper end and a fuel conduit 6 supported within the chamber and directed towards the opening, an outlet or outlets 10 from the conduit opening into, and near the apex of, a cup 8 which surrounds the conduit and has a concave surface 8a close to and facing the opening 3 with the periphery of the cup overlapped by a lip or flange 4 surrounding'the opening. A flame spreader 12 is supported from the conduit or the cup outside the flame opening. Air is supplied to the chamber through one or more inlets below the cup, conveniently by having the base of the chamber open as shown, and guide vanes may also be provided in the chamber. The cup is provided with holes 9 and may contain a ring-shaped member and/or guide vanes. In the form shown, a further cup 13 is provided which is integral with the legs 14 of the conduit support, this cup being provided to contain auxiliary fuel for starting the burner. During starting the main fuel is vaporised in cup 8 but once normal operation is established conduction of heat to the conduit is sufficient to ensure vaporisation of fuel therein and the cup 8 remains dry. A simple stove embodying the burner is described and illustrated Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), in which the flame opening is situated within a heating enclosure in the form of a rectangular metal box with two removable metal covers, one of which is immediately over the burner and the other displaced laterally from it and in a shallower part of the box. The box is fitted with a flue and the burner conduit connected to a source of fuel.
