Abstract
931,388. Liquid fuel burners. CONTROLS CO. OF AMERICA. May 24, 1962 [Feb. 21, 1962], No. 19972/62. Class 75 (1). A pot burner A has a pilot housing, preferably of cast iron, comprising a top wall 21 and two inwardly convergent side walls 20 supported on the bottom of the pot. The side walls 20 are extended at the inner end to form a U-shaped baffle 26 spaced from the bottom of the pot. The top wall has a short horizontal extension 30 provided with apertures 29 for supplying secondary air to the pilot housing. The inner open end of the housing is disposed near the axis of the pot and the outer end is secured to the pot side wall 1 by screws 23. The pot A has perforations 24 supplying primary air to the pilot housing and perforations 3 supplying air to the pot. A ring 5 forming an upward extension of the pot A has an upper row of upwardlytilted perforations 6 and a lower row of inwardly directed perforations 7 situated below the upper edge 4 of the pot wall 1. A ring 35 may be supported on studs 36 within the pot 1. An outer housing 10 having an air inlet aperture 13 in its bottom 12 surrounds the pot. Fuel is supplied to the pilot housing through an inlet 40 and at low flow rates combustion occurs at or near the baffle 26. At high flow rates combustion occurs at or above the top of the pot.
