Classes 75 (1) and 126 A hotplate according to the parent Specification is characterized by the provision of a hobplate having a cut out portion bridged by ribs for supporting a cooking utensil, the ribs extending to the edge of the cut out portion without touching it and being centrally supported by the trough beneath 'the hobplate. The trough 2 is disposed below the hobplate 3 which has a cut out portion 29 bridged by ribs 21 (Fig. 1), carried by a burner cover 15. The ribs 21 are located centrally of the cut out portion 29 by a pin 17 supported within a burner mixing chamber 11 by stays 18. The burner is supported by a cuplike mounting member 5 fitting within an aperture 4 in the trough 2, a gas supply tube 9 and a nozzle 10 being carried by a clip 8 on the mounting member 5. A disc 12 which is integral with the burner closes the top of the mounting member 5 which is provided with air inlets 6 from beneath the trough. Primary air enters the lower part of the mixing chamber through passages 14 and secondary air passes from the mounting member 5 through apertures 19. In a modification (not shown) the ribs are carried directly by the trough. In a further modification (not shown) the ribs are carried by the disc covering the mounting member which is imperforate so that combustion air reaches it from above the trough only.
