877,779. Fire-lighting devices. THRING M. W., and UNDERWOOD, G. July 11, 1960 [July 11, 1959; July 29, 1959], Nos. 23892/59 and 25960/59. Classes 75(1) and 75(3). A solid-fuelled smokeless-fire lighter operates by liquid fuel burning above a fire-brick wick 14 protruding through an internal flange 13 in a liquid fuel reservoir 8 inside a burner casing 1, an air conduit 2, connected to a blower 5, discharging into the top portion via inlet holes 11. After ignition, a flat lid 15 is placed in line with conduit 2 using handle 18 and held by hooks 19 above a gasket 17 so that flames issuing through tubes 16 may be directed through the grate bars 22 of grate' 21 and held in position with support 23 and handle 7. Alternative nozzles to tubes 16 may be provided for use with flat grates, portable stoves or for soldering purposes (Figs. 4, 5, not shown, and Fig. 6). Cooling is effected by the flow of air round the annular space 10 and a second space 9 beneath the reservoir. In an embodiment (Fig..6) the burner itself constitutes the reservoir, and a fuel reservoir 33 and tap 37 facilitate the lighting of a plurality of fires.
