The outer shell 12, Fig. 1, of a double-walled vacuum-insulated liquefied gas container comprises two or more connected portions e.g. near hemispheres 15, 16 welded to a circumferential ring 14 within which is supported by two oppositely acting groups of tension members e.g. rods 17 and clamping rings 20, 21 the inner shell 10 and all the fittings within the vacuum space normally connected to the outer shell, e.g. the filling and emptying union 27, 28, Fig. 2, the vent union and pipe 24, 25 and vacuum connection 31<SP>1</SP> which fittings are carried by only one portion of the shell e.g., the ring 14. As shown the centre portion 18 of each of three equally spaced tension rods 17 is secured to a corresponding bracket 19 carried by the ring 14 and carry adjusting nuts at opposite ends where they pass through the clamping rings 20, 21. A socket 30 on the ring 14 provides for supply of current to an electric heater to effect revaporization of the stored gas. In a modification the outer shell comprises two hemispheres 32, 33, Fig. 3, welded together; the lower hemisphere carrying the emptying and filling union 43 and pipe 42, the vent pipe 40 and vacuum connection. The inner shell 31 is mounted eccentrically by three pairs of tension rods, 34 pivoted at adjacent ends to brackets 35 secured to the hemisphere 33 and one adjustably secured at their other ends to brackets 37, 38 carried by the inner shell. In a further modification, similar to Fig. 3, the outer ends of the tension rods are secured to clamping rings 46, 47, Fig. 4 (not shown).
