Abstract
842,125. Chucks. THEOBALD, D. R. Sept. 9, 1958 [Sept. 16, 1957], No. 29017/57. Class 83 (3). A workpiece 11 is located axially in a collet 1 by an adjustable stop which can be adjusted in the collet bore and locked in the adjusted position. The stop comprises a screw 28, Fig. 1, coaxially mounted in a collet 1 and adjustably screwed into a nut 26, which is held axially by a plug 24 screwed into said nut and co-operating with the tapered bore 25 of a split-ring 15, Fig. 4. The expanded and side diameter of the split-ring 15 is secured in the sleeve 16 of the collet 1. Apertures 32 in the sleeve allow tightening of the nut 31 to lock the screw 28,-or alternatively the screw may be locked by a grubscrew through the nut 26. In a modification, the screw 28 is screwed through the nut 26, passes through the split-ring 15 and plug 24, in which it is a sliding fit, and the end 23 of the plug 24 is screwed into the screwed bore 29 of the nut 26, thus expanding the split-ring 15 in the bore of the collet 1. In a further modification, the end 23 of the plug 24 and the screwthread 29 in the nut 26 are omitted, and the plug 24 is engaged with split-ring 15 by rotating a nut on the outer end of the screw 28.
