Abstract

1,141,529. Work-holders. R. GLIMPEL. 10 June, 1966 [9 April, 1966], No. 25941/66. Heading B3B. A work-holder comprises a body 1, Fig. 1, a sleeve 2 slit at 6, 7 screwed on to the body at 3/3<SP>1</SP> and secured against rotation by a screw 8, and a washer 4 fixed on to a nut 5. The workholder comprises a mandrel, in Fig. 1, which holds the work by expansion of sleeve 2, due to the wedge shape of the screw threads 3/3<SP>1</SP>, when nut 5 is tightened, a removable shoulder 9 being provided. In a modification, the sleeve is formed in two parts separated by a spacer, and having different diameters, the body has an integral shoulder, and the clamping member is formed by a push rod and nut. In a further modification, the work-holder is a chuck, Fig. 3, having a split collet 2. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the clamping member is formed by a rod 5a having a flange 4. The mandrel of Fig. 5 (not shown) has an intermediate member (15) between body (1) and sleeve (2). The mandrel of Fig. 6 (not shown) has a sleeve formed in two parts 2a, 2b separated by a flexible member 17. The work-holding faces of the sleeve 2 may be of non-circular cross-section, and the screw thread 3/3<SP>1</SP> may be of conical form. Nut 5 may be replaced by a pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical or electrohydraulically operated device.
