Abstract

1,257,777. Chucks. CLARE COLLETS Ltd. 19 March, 1969 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 55535/67. Heading B3B. A chuck for a cutting tool comprises a body 5, a ring nut 2 for locking a collet 1 in the body, and an element 3 attached to the collet and adjustable relative thereto to adjust axially the position of a cutter held in the collet. The element and collet are held against relative rotation by male and female configurations 33, 13 and are locked together and adjusted by a locking ring 4 which is internally threaded with right and left hand threads. The element includes a rectangular hole 32 for receiving the tang-end of a tool shank. Graduations may be provided to indicate adjustment. The ring nut 2 has two sets of threads 21, 22 of different pitch for differential clamping of the collet 1 in the body 5. Internal parts may be modified to receive e.g. a tool with a screw-threaded shank.
