Abstract

841,469. Aircraft wheels. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 11, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 8262/59. Divided out of 840,565. Class 144 (1). An aircraft wheel comprises two sections 64, 66, the section 64 comprising two axiallyspaced hub portions 68, 70 which each receive a bearing 72, 74 respectively, are integrally connected by a reinforcing sleeve 76, and from each of which extends a generally radial load supporting web 78, 80, the hub portions 68, 70 being located respectively near the mid-plane, and one side of the wheel and the web 78, 80 being apertured for brake ventilation and connected integrally to the axial ends of a rim half 82 to which is coupled the other rim half comprising the other wheel section 66 to complete the tyre-carrying rim. As shown, the wheel section 64 is cast, and the section 66 is forged from magnesium or aluminium. The section 66 is bolted to the web 78 to define a brake housing and carries a plurality of disc brake rotor drive keys 58 bolted to its inner periphery.
